Rockhampton Region
Rockhampton is situated in central Queensland towards the southern end of the Bowen Basin which is ideally placed to service an ever growing mining industry in the region.
Central Queensland plays a significant role in providing services to the booming mining industry. Coal from nearby Bowen and Surat Basin coalfields makes up the majority of mining activity, producing product for the world’s steel making plants and for power production. The open-cut and underground operations have estimated deposits in excess of 10,000 million tones. Machinery used in the mining process is some of the largest in the world, with walking draglines weighing up to 6,600 tonnes.*
Mine operators in the Bowen Basin include Anglo Coal, Queensland Coal, BHP Coal, BMA, Macarthur Coal, AMCI, Xstrata Coal and many more.
